Machines 1880-2008
Bucyrus-Erie Company is a name synonymous with moving the earth. From the smallest loader-backhoe to some of the largest machines ever to

of excavating equipment. With a rich
heritage going back 128 years the company, now known as Bucyrus International Inc.,
is still designing and building some of the world’s largest shovels and walking
draglines. Nothing could be more apt

Longest Line on Earth”.
Over 450 spectacular black and white photos combined with detailed captions chronicle
and describe all the major equipment product lines from Bucyrus Company, Erie Steam
Shovel, Bucyrus-Erie and Ruston-Bucyrus. Every

Bucyrus:
Making the Earth Move for 125 Years
Bucyrus International Inc., formerly Bucyrus-Erie Company, celebrates 125 years
of building heavy excavating machinery, including the largest earthmovers ever to
roam the planet. Founded in 1880 by Daniel P. Eells and a group of business associates,
the company built a diverse range of machines and grew to become the leading supplier
of walking draglines, shovels, and drills to the surface mining industry.
With its acquired companies, such as Marion Power Shovel and Ransomes & Rapier,
Bucyrus built the entire roster of giant stripping shovels in the western world,
and the record-breaking "Big Muskie" walking dragline. Over 90 percent of the giant
walking draglines working today have been built by the Bucyrus companies.
